Background
The company produces and integrates a wide palette of power electronics for diverse applications in complex production systems. Innovation is one of the main factors in the company’s success.

Task 
A new generation of devices in power electronics focusing on superior competitiveness needs to be developed based on a changed system concept.  For this, Helbling takes on the development of the 6 kW DC-DC converter solely on the basis of formal requirements. 


Procedure  

  • In the first development phase: detailed review of the customer requirements and their application to a complete specification that includes more than just the technical details 
  • Partly in parallel: Development of a rough concept for the converter and verification of the most critical dynamic requirements
  • In the second development phase: Development of a functional prototype of the converter and verification of its performance according to requirements  

 

Processing time 
3 months for phase 1 and a further 4 months for phase 2 

Result
Tested concept is used directly in the prototype phase. The early inclusion of the component suppliers (Drossel, etc..) was particularly advantageous.
