Increase in Competitiveness

The history of the origins of large electric motors (10 to 20MW) is often a long one and an enormously wide variety of them is available. The extensive work that is required for product maintenance and the high engineering costs have led in specific cases to long order lead times and uncompetitive costs or prices.

An initial analysis revealed that the process costs – around 43% of the overall costs – were very high, whereas the potential to cut product costs was relatively low.  In order to optimize both areas, the product range had to be adjusted and completed and the options standardized.

In total, costs were reduced by 25% and order lead time by as much as 80%, with savings on process costs making up around 2/3 of the total cost reduction. These optimizations helped our customer to move from a loss situation to profitability and expand its market share from 4% to 20%.
