Mathematical Modeling of an Aerial Cable Car Cabin

The aerial cable car in Samnaun was the world’s first double-decker cable car and has a capacity of 180+1 persons, which makes it the largest in the world.

Helbling modeled the structure of the cabin and prepared the mathematical verification in accordance with the requirements stipulated by norms and the licensing authorities. In addition to the static verification, crash verification was also required for the event of a tear in the haulage cable and the subsequent blocking of the drive unit.
