Optimization of the Condenser Cooling Pipes of a Thermal Power Station
Helbling Technik carried out a simulation of the flows (CFD) and heat transfer with the objective of developing further and optimizing a ribbed pipe heat exchanger. The aim was to achieve an optimal overall performance.
In areas with insufficient water reserves, the steam generated in power stations is cooled using air condensers. The cooling pipes employed in this process are a decisive factor in determining a power station's efficiency.
Our tasks:
- Constructing an analytical model for pressure loss and heat transfer on simple ribs
- Simulation of the flows (CFD) in the smallest periodic unit of the cooling pipe
- Comparison of an analytical model, a CFD model and the results of experiments
- Optimization of the geometry of ribs and pipes using CFD simulations
